Large relic guardian figurine - BAKOTA tribe - Gabon
Estimated age is around the middle of the last century.
Dimensions: height no less than 68 cm and width 21 cm.
Delivery with certificate, photo, description and age attestation by AFRICANART.
Because of its size we know that it was a relic guardian of one of the most notable tribesmen, a woman given the width and graceful craftmanship of the piece. Most likely the wife of the tribe's chief. At the same time, I also offer an almost equally large (66 x 39 cm) but a bit wider and stronger relic guardian. The piece has a mix of yellow and red copper. Brought by a Belgian missionary.
I added some photos from the original collector, Brother Emmanuel (on the photos) and his fellow missionaries of the Order of Jesu XPI Passio. (The congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, in other words, the Passionists) I can eventually mail these.
