Antique Russian icon, or four-field icon from the 19th century with two saints at the edges. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century.
Relatively fine painting. Perfectly matched colour contrasts. Warm colours. Christ Pantokrator, Our Lady of Vladimir and the Crucifixion of Christ are depicted, amongst others. All saints are labelled. The texts are easy to read. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the form of paint chips, scratches and dirt (see photos). The painting has craquelure. Partial restorations are present. There are somewhat heavy chips, especially at the edge (see photos).
This is a typical commissioned icon. At the top and bottom cross-sponkis are attached. Heavy, solid wooden board.
All details are well-visible in the photos. The pictures are part of the description.
