Beautiful bronze sculpture of Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) "Panther watching" ("Lionne aux aguets") with a nuanced dark brown patina.
With inscriptions "Susse Freres Paris" and "Cire Perdue", and foundry mark "Susse Freres Editeurs Paris". On the back of the base signed "Roger Godchaux".

Roger Godchaux was a French painter, draughtsman and sculptor, born in Vendôme on 21 December 1878 and died in Paris on 6 March 1958. As a sculptor, what he was above all, elephants and wild animals, mainly felines, were his favourite subjects.

The smooth and oblique stripes in the surfaces of his images are characteristic of his work. The works intended for sale in bronze were entrusted to renowned firms such as Susse Frères or Valsuani.

Provenance: private collection (from an inheritance).
