Pair of candlesticks in chiselled bronze with gold and dark brown patina. Zoomorphic base with a central barrel depicting a tree, a snake is coiled around it and ready to jump and hunt a mouse to comes down.

Victor Paillard is known for his famous works and collaborations such as being the master smelter of the statue of Queen Victoria for the world’s fair of 1851, the decoration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He worked at the end of his life for Empress Maria Eugenia de Montijo and creating the equestrian statue of Emperor Napoléon III.
