These are two very old earplugs of the Zulu, made of bakelite.
However, it is not a pair, since these earplugs were always made in mirror image.
They were originally made and worn by the men who worked in the mines.
Then they took these earplugs to their residential areas and the use was taken over by the women.
Often they lost one of them and made another, so many original earplugs are lost.
