Description
Italie - Venise - Vénétie - Lions de Trau - Dalmatie - Rivière - Médaille - 1933
Original - Bronze argenté - Très bon état

Beautiful and very rare medal made of silver-plated metal and enamels, made by the Milan-based company ENEA in 1933 to commemorate the destruction of the “Lions of Trogir” and designed by Castelli & Gerosa. The front features the coat of arms of Dalmatia with the three crowned leopard heads on a blue background, surrounded by the inscription “PRO DALMATICA FIDE”, paraphrase of the motto “Pro Italica Fide” coined by Dalmatian volunteers during World War I, surmounted by the Lion of St. Mark. The back features Mussolini’s motto, said at the end of his speech on 14 December 1932 at the Senate of the Kingdom, following the anti-Italian actions by the Slavs of Trogir and Krk. "I leoni di Traù sono stati distrutti, ma ecco che distrutti, sono, come non mai, diventati simbolo, vivo e testimonianza certa. Solo uomini arretrati e incolti possono illudersi che demolendo le pietre, si cancelli la Storia. Mussolini".
