Strathisla whisky has never been more mature to offer a comparison, so this is utterly unique. Suffice to say, this magnificent, beguiling beauty offers all the dimensions and sophistication you would hope for in a greatly matured malt whisky. Michael Urquhart would have been barely three years old when this cask was filled. So many events have occurred in the world, and to you personally, since this whisky was filled into cask in 1957. Over fifty seven years, the spirit has embraced the fibres of the Sherry cask, picking up the rich and decadent flavours only appreciable in great whiskies of lengthy maturation. It is a rare and unforgettable experience.
CASK: Sherry Hogshead Cask No. 1730
COLOUR: Impenetrably dark and rubious
NOSE: Immediately, your senses are aroused by a wonderful, rich, Sherry nose. Slight nuttiness, pecan, walnut, which is quite common with mature sherried whiskies, and there's subtle smoke twisting around too. The fruit is solid and fresh: black cherry, damson, cooking apple, and raisin, yet there are wispy top notes of rose petal. This gossamer of florals drifts ficately over the Sherry heart, which is pumping heavier tones of ground coffee and plain ?late. You will lose yourself nosing this glass for :onsiderable time.
widing, complex journey into flavour. Soft '691 at first, then a tantalising touch of not too much, but complimented by
the fruit sweetness swelling around the 91um. grated root ginger, oak, and shoyu. It's a robust aNA attention-grabbing dram, make no mistake.
Finish: Drying, and mouth drawing in the early stage. then settles down for a long fru\t-dr.-,,, damson jam.
