Sheet size 49x58 cm. Elegant map after the Magini model from Theatrum Orbis Terrarum sive Novus Atlas of 1654, published by Ioan Blaeu. Astronomer W. Blaeu was a pupil of Tycho Brahe, he founded a workshop for the construction of globes in 1599. He also started publishing maps almost immediately. In 1630, he created his first atlas ‘Atlantis Appendix’ and five years later, he also published the first edition in two tomes of ‘Atlas Novus’. After his death, in 1638, his son Joan edited the well known Atlas Maior, published in 11 volumes in 1662. In 1672 a fire destroyed the workshop marking the end of the business.
