Antique Greece, classical period, 450 to 420 BC. A beautiful situla handle from bronze cast in Y shape, representing a resting dog with two duck heads. A pair of finely shaped paws protrude under the mouth, snout, eyes and forehead worked very detailed, tiny small cuts cold processed. Along the entire face the defined fur. Between the mouth two fixing holes, at both extremities one duck head each. Shiny layer of black patina. Scattered throughout the object, there are traces of corrosion in the colours dark red, brown, green to turquoise. They give the object a special appeal.
Condition: The handle is in very good condition.
Provenance: 1995 from the German art trade, before that German private collection of the 50s. Proof of origin at Catawiki.
