Hellenistic head sculpture. Around the 3rd-4th centuries BC. Terracotta, and wood base.
Dimensions: 16.5 x 13.5 x 10 cm (head); 27 x 10 x 10 cm (total with base)
Terracotta piece, it’s a fragment of a sculpture or bust. This head still has a connection with Greek classical art but, at the same time, shows a large number of remarkable peculiarities: the almond eyes and the small mouth are reminiscent of pieces from the area of Gandhara as well as Egypt (Coptic, above all), etc. It’s impossible to know with absolute certainty the identity of the person of divinity depicted in the sculpture since it has no remarkable iconographic elements.
